Joe Flacco is a Super Bowl-winning QB. He won Super Bowl XLVII as the starting QB for the Baltimore Ravens and was named Super Bowl MVP.

During that Super Bowl run, Flacco tied Joe Montana’s single postseason record for TD passes without throwing an interception.

On February 13, 2019, the Ravens traded Flacco to the Denver Broncos as Lamar Jackson took over the starting role.

Since he departed from Baltimore, Flacco has played for five different teams.

Flacco is no longer a spring chicken. He is 40 years old and has shown his age this season.

He is starting for the Cleveland Browns, but it is time the Browns move on from Flacco and see what one or both of their rookie QBs are capable of.

The Cleveland Browns Should Move On From Starting Joe Flacco

Joe Flacco is struggling mightily this season. He is completing just 58.1% of his passes and has just two passing TDs but six interceptions.

Flacco has zero mobility at this age. He was never known to be very mobile, but he is a sitting duck this season.

Cleveland is 1-3 and has not scored more than 17 points in a game this season.

It is time for the Browns to bench Joe Flacco and see what Dillon Gabriel can do. Flacco is a very likable guy and a good locker room presence, but at this stage in his career, he is no more than a backup quarterback.

Cleveland Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot predicts the move will be made to bench Flacco and start Gabriel, possibly as soon as week 5.

Cabot stated, “Coming off their embarrassing 34-10 loss to the [Detroit] Lions, the Browns need to jumpstart their turnover-and-drop-prone offense, and Gabriel can provide the spark,” Cabot wrote. She continued, “On Monday, Kevin Stefanski declined to commit to Flacco for the Vikings game, and that’s as it should be. It’s time for a change to see if the 1-3 season can still be salvaged, and one appears imminent.”

Shedeur Sanders spoke with Cabot about the possibility of a QB change. “I’m ready for my opportunity whenever that happens,” Sanders told Cabot. “But in this time that I’m not out there physically playing, I would say I’m growing everywhere.”

Sanders also told Cabot, “This is something my dad [Deion Sanders] used to say: ‘If you’re up there doing something every day, you better be getting better at it.” Sanders added. “Everything we do in this building it’s a learning thing. It’s learning every day. I’m in a great position to be sitting back, understanding the game plan, understanding everything that the NFL is.”

It does not appear Sanders is next in line to start as the Browns are far more likely to have Gabriel under center once they pull the trigger and bench Flacco.

The move to bench Joe Flacco needs to be made soon, as the Browns are 1-3, but their season is still alive. The defense has been very good, and the season can be saved, but a change at QB is needed.
