Vegas Golden Knights center Tomas Hertl of Praha, Czech Republic has been named the National Hockey League first star of the week for the week from January 5-11, 2025 according to nhl.com. It was a significant week for Hertl as he was named to represent Czech Republic at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo on January 6.
Hertl’s statistics for the week
Hertl had three goals and six assists for nine points in four games. He was a +4 with four power-play points, one game-winning goal, 14 shots on goal, two hits, four blocked shots, 34 faceoff wins, and one takeaway.
Overtime winner
Hertl scored a dramatic overtime winner in a 4-3 Golden Knights win over the Winnipeg Jets last Tuesday. Hertl’s game-winning goal came with 13 seconds left in the extra period. Mitch Marner of Markham, Ontario and Jack Eichel of North Chelmsford, Massachusetts had the assists. This was the ninth overtime winner of Hertl’s career. The loss was significant for the Jets as it extended their losing streak to 10 games.
Two assists in win over Columbus
On January 8, Hertl had two assists in a 5-3 Golden Knights win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Hertl set up right winger Mark Stone of Winnipeg, Manitoba for the game-winning goal with one minute and 16 seconds left in the second period, and Brett Howden of Calgary, Alberta with three minutes and 46 seconds left in the third period.
Career-high five points in a game
Hertl had a career-high five points in a 7-2 Golden Knights win over the San Jose Sharks on Sunday. Hertl had two goals and three assists.
Hertl actually tied the Golden Knights franchise record for most points in a game. Stone has accomplished the feat twice. He had two goals and three assists in a 7-2 Golden Knights win over the Florida Panthers on February 6, 2020, and five assists in a 5-4 Golden Knights win over the Minnesota Wild on March 1, 2021.
