Top Four 2025 Tennis Matches… So Far

It is worth noting that the 2025 tennis season is not over. The autumn Asian swing is underway, but after the US Open, it is a good time to take stock of what we have seen so far and rank the top four matches of the year with the disclaimer that it is subject to change by what we see between now and November.

Without further adieu, here is our list. In our humble opinion, these were exciting, emotional, gut wrenching, and gave us all the feelings before, during, and after.

4. Victoria Mboko defeats Naomi Osaka at Canadian Open

The teenagers have made inroads this year with countless examples including Mirra Andreeva, Iva Jovic, and Joao Fonseca. However, the most emotional win for this age group happened at the 2025 Canadian Open where hometown favorite Victoria Mboko, then 18, nursing an injured wrist from a fall in the previous match, earned her first career title, a WTA 1000 one, in come from behind fashion over four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka.

Tennis Canada fans were loud and proud, as it should be.

3. Novak Djokovic defeats Hubert Hurkacz at Geneva Open

Tennis’s GOAT, Novak Djokovic, was in search of his 100th ATP title, and he got it against Hubert Hurkacz at the 2025 Geneva Open.

Djokovic dropped the first set, but played second and third set tiebreakers to perfection over Hurkacz.

With the win, Djokovic joined Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103) with 100 or more ATP singles wins.

2. Carlos Alcaraz defeats Jannik Sinner at French Open

You may think this is the top match of the year, and there are valid reasons to make that argument. Alcaraz looked down and out dropping the first two sets to Sinner, but he found a way to come back from the brink of defeat in over five hours of tennis to win Roland Garros.

It was a legendary match between the two top men in the game right now.

1. Madison Keys defeats Aryna Sabalenka at Australian Open

This was the only tennis match of the year that brought me to tears. Madison Keys has been so close for so long to winning a Grand Slam. The way she methodically worked her way through a brutal AO draw, defeating Danielle Collins, Elena Rybakina, Elena Svitolina, Iga Swiatek, and then Aryna Sabalenka in successive rounds was amazing to watch.

She earned her maiden Grand Slam in dramatic fashion, and those of us in the US who were up in the middle of the night watching it live, will never forget it.
