The Packers have a trio of young wide receivers on their roster, each of whom finished the 2024 NFL season with 600+ receiving yards. But that isn’t stopping them from exploring the possibility of selecting a pass catcher in the early portion of the upcoming Draft, and they have been hosting a couple of the top prospects in this year’s class at their facilities in Green Bay.

Packers Meeting With Top WR Prospects Ahead Of NFL Draft

Wide receiver is certainly not an immediate area of need for the Packers, but the situation could become an issue at this time next year. Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, and the newly signed Mecole Hardman are all set to become free agents next off-season, which would leave Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks as the only WRs on their roster for 2026.

Nabbing one in the 2025 NFL Draft would be a play for the future, with a focus on the long-term. And it looks as though that is an avenue they’d like to explore, especially given the news of the visits that they’ve been hosting recently.

At the end of last week, Texas wideout Matthew Golden was in town visiting the team’s facilities. Golden has surged up draft boards recently, and some have even considered him to be on par with Tetairoa McMillan, who many others have pegged as the top WR prospect in 2025.

Then, early this week, Ohio State standout Emeka Egbuka is set to make a visit to Green Bay. The former Buckeye had the second 1,000+ yard, 10+ touchdown season of his collegiate career in 2024, and is projected to be one of the prospects that is most ready to immediately contribute in the NFL. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Egbuka’s visit to Wisconsin will last two days, and comes on the heels of a long meeting that he had with the Dallas Cowboys on Friday and Saturday.

The Packers currently hold the rights to the 23rd overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. If one of the prospects that they like happens to fall in the process, they could use their second round pick (54th overall) on a pass catcher of the future.
