Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has started to consider retirement. Has the future Hall of Famer considered when it’s time to retire?

Travis Kelce Addresses Retirement

After losing Super Bowl LIX, Kelce announced on his New Heights podcast that he would be taking some time off before deciding to play in 2025.

It turns out that Kelce only needed a few weeks to make a decision. Chiefs general manager Brett Veach told reporters at the NFL Combine that Kelce was “fired up” to return, with all signs pointing to him playing in 2025.

The Chiefs opened minicamp with Kelce in attendance, signaling that the 35-year-old is committed to playing in 2025.

Kelce has one year remaining on his contract, and many believe he will retire after his deal expires.

Kelce spoke to the media on Wednesday about his future in Kansas City and left the door open for a return past 2025. However, Kelce wants to play this year out first.

“I got one year on this contract; I know that,” Kelce said via Arrowheadpride. “And we’ll try and figure out something for next year. The Chiefs’ organization knows how much I love them. I can’t see myself ever playing anywhere else, so we’ll deal with that down the road when the time is right. But right now, I’m focused on winning a championship this year.”

Kelce’s age finally started to show this past season. The tight end registered 97 receptions for 823 yards and three touchdowns. Kelce’s yards and touchdowns were his lowest since 2013.

Patrick Mahomes Comments On Travis Kelce Retirement Rumors

After Kelce spoke to reporters, Patrick Mahomes went to the podium to speak with the media.

The three-time Super Bowl champion addressed Kelce’s decision to return. Much to the surprise of many, Mahomes did not converse with Kelce about retirement.

“We never talked about it,” said Mahomes via ArrowheadPride. “I think you have that in the back of your mind — I mean, for anybody that’s played a lot of football seasons, there’s always a chance. You have to put in the work in the offseason. I think everybody wants to play in the games, but putting the work in the offseason [is] where stuff gets strenuous.”

Both Mahomes and Kelce are determined to earn their fourth Super Bowl win as a tandem.

Kelce made one thing clear in his press conference: he still loves football and wants to keep playing.

“I love coming into work every single day,” Kelce explained. “It wasn’t a very tough one for me. I know I’m getting older, but at the same time, I still feel like I got a lot that I can prove in this league. With that being said, it really wasn’t that hard of a decision for me.”
