Bad news came to the US Open on Day 4, British top seed and World No. 5 Jack Draper withdrew from the tournament before his second round match.
Prior to the US Open, Draper had been out with an arm injury. Fans were encouraged to see him playing well in last week’s US Open Mixed Doubles Championship and hoped he was on the mend. Draper and partner Jessica Pegula made it the semifinals before losing to Casper Ruud and Iga Swiatek.
First round match done ✅ was a little rocky but ultimately Jack draper is clutch and never in doubt. 53 days since his last competitive match, so was never going to be easy. But he came through and so good to have him back. Some good points and things to build on 🫡🫶🏻 pic.twitter.com/p9ici15foh

What Jack Draper Posted On Social Media
At 1:38 PM ET on August 27, Draper wrote: “Hi guys, I’m sorry to say I’ll be withdrawing from the US open. I tried my very best to be here and give myself the every chance to play but the discomfort in my arm has become to much and I have to do what is right and look after myself. Thank you for all the support.”
Though disappointed, fans told Draper to get well and come back stronger when he is healthy.
Last year, Draper had his best Grand Slam finish as a US Open semifinalist.
When Could We See Jack Draper Playing Again?
The ATP tennis calendar marches on until November, and it is unclear how and when he will be able to play again.
In addition to the regular tour schedule which includes an Asian swing, Draper is slated to be in the Six Kings Slam in October.
Draper, the 2025 Indian Wells champion, also would be in contention for the Nitto ATP Finals held in November, an exclusive end of year event for the top eight ATP ranked players.
Jack Draper’s lefty serve and game will be missed for the rest of the New York fortnight, but hopefully his arm gets healthy and does not cause him any other issues in the future.
