Ben Shelton, who has had a terrific North American hardcourt season including a win at the Masters 1000 event in Canada, is out of the US Open.
Shelton was forced to retire, for the first time in his professional career of 178 matches, during his third round match with Adrian Mannarino with a left shoulder injury.
The pair split the first four sets before Shelton ended it before the fifth set.

Despite being just 22, Ben Shelton has long been considered a formidable candidate to break the US men’s Grand Slam drought.
Andy Roddick’s 2003 US Open win is the last by an American man.

Besides Shelton not having a chance to win the US Open, we are depressed that the Shelton and Trinity Rodman content has ended.
In my opinion, Shelton and Rodman are the best sports super couple. They are young professional athletes who show geniune love and respect for each other.

Rodman was in the pressroom for his second round post-match press conference, and he smiled when she asked a question.
Trinity Rodman is also the person who pointed out weeks ago via TikTok some of the nuances of tennis that make no sense. One of those was the raised hand when the ball hit the net; the winner of the point waves to the opponent. This seemed to be the issue with Jelena Ostapenko in her match with Taylor Townsend. We also saw it in the Wimbledon semifinal between Aryna Sabalenka and Amanda Anisimova when Sabalenka was angry at Anisimova.

Both Ben Shelton and Trinity Rodman are great to have in professional sports, and it is sad that Shelton’s US Open campaign was cut short by injury.
There is plenty of tennis left in 2025 including the Nitto ATP Finals for the top eight players. Shelton is currently in the running at World No. 6.
