As we begin the second Sunday of the US Open, there is plenty of tennis news both near and far.
Darren Cahill
With Chris Fowler doing his regular job covering college football, Darren Cahill was paired with Fowler’s usual partner, Chris Evert, to cover the Iga Swiatek vs. Anna Kalinskaya third round US Open match.
In my opinion, Cahill is very good offering commentary on tennis matches, covering tactics and things he sees as a former player and coach (to Jannik Sinner). Evert talks often about confidence and the personality traits of the players.
They do not normally work together and managed fine except for one odd exchange about Anna Kalinskaya’s dog, Bella. Cahill perked up when he saw Bella in the stands, leaving Evert to wonder if he had some attachment to the dog.

In addition to appreciating cute dogs, everyone knows that Sinner used to date Kalinskaya so it is not out of the norm to think that Cahill is friendly with Kalinskaya’s team and potentially met Bella before. Evert apparently was not thinking about that connection.
Daniil Medvedev
It cannot be a complete surprise that Daniil Medvedev and longtime coach Gilles Cervana have parted ways. They spent eight years together and during that time, Medvedev achieved the World No. 1 ranking and became the 2021 US Open champion.

The current World No. 13 is 29 years old, turning 30 in February, and is at a crossroads in his career. He is also juggling a family and other responsibilites.
His on-court emotional outbursts have been plentiful this year with the most recent at the US Open earlier this week.
We wish him well and hope that he finds a new coaching partnership and thrives in 2026.
Alexander Bublik
With all of the talk and attention focused on the anger and bad manners at this year’s US Open, let’s shine a light on Alexander Bublik who defeated Tommy Paul late Saturday night.

Paul was impaired after a long and late match in his previous round.
Bublik began his on-court interview by wishing Paul and Ben Shelton good health and quick recoveries, calling both good friends.
