In a preview of My Next Guest, Clark talks about her upbringing in Iowa and how she always had a competitive drive at such a young age.

Clark shared a story about how she approached Halloween like a sport, racing from house to house to accumulate candy.

“When we trick-or-treated in Des Moines growing up, I would be like, so sweaty under my costume because I was in a dead sprint from house to house,” Clark told Letterman. “I had to have the most candy. That’s how I operated.”

Clark later joked that she’s not fun to be around on Christmas, especially during a family card game.

“Everybody hates me by the end of the night, and I’m like, ‘Oh, great. I ruined Christmas!’” Clark explained. “I won’t do that this year, though.”

Letterman, an Indiana native, has been a strong supporter of Clark. The former Late Show host attended Clark’s jersey retirement ceremony at the University of Iowa in February.

Clark’s interview with Letterman streams on Netflix on April 8.

Caitlin Clark Enters Year Two With High Expectations

Clark, 23, enters year two with the Indiana Fever of the WNBA.

Clark completely changed the landscape of the WNBA in 2024 with record-setting ratings and attendance numbers.

Because of Clark’s popularity, the Fever will be featured on national television in a record-breaking 41 of the team’s 44 regular-season games.

Clark became one of the league’s best players after a sensational rookie campaign. Clark averaged 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 8.4 assists.

Clark’s list of accolades includes All-WNBA First Team, All-Star, Rookie of the Year, All-Rookie Team, and the league’s assist leader.

Clark and the Fever begin their season in Chicago against Angel Reese and the Sky on Saturday, May 17. That game will be on ABC at 3 p.m. ET.
