Oklahoma City Thunder stars Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams acknowledged team reporter Nick Gallo for his latest AT&T commercial starring reigning NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Thunder Stars Praise Nick Gallo
Following Oklahoma City’s 138-89 NBA Cup quarterfinals rout of the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night, Holmgren was heard telling Gallo at the end of his interview, “Hold up, shout out [for] AT&T, baby.”
“Yes, Yes, YEESSS!!!” Williams added.
According to Gallo’s website, Gallo is the broadcast reporter and digital editor for the Thunder. He provides in-game reports, hosts the halftime show, and performs postgame walk-off interviews for the Thunder’s FanDuel Sports Network TV broadcasts.
Gallo has been with the Thunder since 2012.
Oklahoma City Wins 16th Straight Game
Oklahoma City handed the Suns its most lopsided loss in franchise history and the biggest blowout of the season behind Gilgeous-Alexander’s 28 points and Holmgren’s 24 points.
After scoring 28 points in 27 minutes, Gilgeous-Alexander checked out along with the rest of the Oklahoma City starters with 3:32 remaining in the third quarter. The Thunder were up by 41 at that point and led by as many as 53 in the fourth quarter.
“I thought we had good mental toughness tonight,” said Thunder coach Mark Daigneault. “It’s hard to play with leads. It’s hard not to get distracted by the score. I thought the group to start the third quarter came out and threw the first punch, and that energy continued through the third.
“Then the group in the fourth quarter did a great job of just kind of playing the next possession. That’s how you build habits. You can take steps backwards in a game like that, even though you may end up winning the game.”
Thunder Could Make NBA History
The Thunder are off to an unprecedented 24-1 start to the season, which had only been done before by the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors. Seventeen of Oklahoma City’s wins have come by double-digit margins.
More importantly, the 2015-16 Warriors finished 73-9, breaking the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls record of 72-10. The Thunder are currently on pace to at least match Golden State’s record from that season.
Oklahoma City is also 72-10 over its past 82 regular-season games and has outscored opponents by 1,189 points in that span. That’s the best point differential over any 82-game span in NBA history, per ESPN Stats & Information.
In addition, Wednesday’s victory was the 16th straight win for the Thunder, setting a franchise record for the longest winning streak.
“Not focusing on the win streak,” Daigneault continued. “You just got to play the next possession, get better the next day, win the next quarter and compete in the next game.
The Thunder will face the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Cup semifinal on Saturday.
