Amanda Anisimova, Coco Gauff, and Madison Keys are the American women whose success in 2025 made major headlines in the WTA season. All three will compete again in the WTA Finals next month in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Certainly, if one wins the WTA Finals, the answer could change; however, in mid-October we are asking ourselves which one had the best 2025?
Let’s review what each accomplished.

Anisimova hit the ground running in 2025 with a WTA 1000 win in Doha. She was a finalist at a Wimbledon warmup tournament, the WTA 500 HSBC Championships.
She finished as a Grand Slam finalist in back-to-back Slams of Wimbledon and the US Open.
Amanda Anisimova finished her season (prior to WTA Finals) with a win at the WTA 1000 China Open.
The World No. 4 has a 45-16 win-loss record.
2. Coco Gauff

Gauff won the French Open which was the pivotal moment of her season.
She lost back-to-back clay WTA 1000 finals at the Italian Open and Madrid Open before that Roland Garros win.
Her season hit a rough spot over the summer; however, she finished strongly with a WTA 1000 win at the Wuhan Open.
She also added a WTA 1000 doubles title at the Canadian Open with compatriot McCartney Kessler.
In team play, she was integral to the US’s win at the United Cup in January.
The World No. 3 had a 47-14 win-loss singles record.
3. Madison Keys
Keys won big in the first full month of the season.
She defeated Jessica Pegula at Adelaide International, an Australian Open warmup tournament.
At the time, Pegula said if Madison Keys played like that at the Australian Open, she would win her maiden Grand Slam.

Pegula’s words became prophetic as Keys marched through a difficult draw of Elena Rybakina, Elina Svitolina, Iga Swiatek, and Aryna Sabalenka in the finals in Melbourne.
KEYS IS A GRAND SLAM CHAMPION!
29yo Madison Keys defeats world number #1 and two-time defending champ Aryna Sabalenka 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 to win the #AusOpen, her first Major title.
Incredible performance.
What a moment for her and very unexpected in this stage of her career. pic.twitter.com/auTGY2LeSN

Keys is currently World No. 7 with a 37-13 record.
Conclusion
This is a purely subjective assessment, but Keys would be the woman I pick. Anisimova and Gauff were terrific, but Keys winning the long-awaited Grand Slam that eluded her over the years caused me to shed tennis tears in the middle of the night as I watched it live.
