The National Hockey League will have a salary cap of $95.5 million this season. This means many NHL players will be making quite a bit of money. However, behind every signed NHL contract are agents who negotiate the contracts with the NHL’s general managers. Here is a list of the top five NHL players and their agents.
1) Leon Draisaitl–Edmonton Oilers
Draisaitl is set to earn $16.5 million this season after signing an eight year contract extension worth $112 million last summer with the Edmonton Oilers. Draisaitl’s agent is Ottawa native Andy Scott of the Octagon group. It should be noted that Draisaitl will probably not be the highest paid NHL player or Oilers player for long. He is expected to be passed by Connor McDavid.
2) Nathan MacKinnon–Colorado Avalanche
MacKinnon is making $16.05 million this season. He is in the third year of a contract which is earning him $100.8 million. MacKinnon’s agent is Pat Brisson of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec. The University of Ottawa graduate has also represented NHL stars Mario Lemieux, Sidney Crosby, Sergei Fedorov, Chris Chelios, Roberto Luongo, and Martin Brodeur.
3) Igor Shesterkin–New York Rangers
The highest paid goaltender in NHL history, Shesterkin is set to make $15.825 million this season. The native of Moscow, Russia signed an eight-year deal worth $92 million on December 6, 2024. Shesterkin’s agent is New York’s Maxim Moliver of MIR Sports Management. Even though Shesterkin signed a huge deal, he was unable to guide the Rangers to the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
4) Auston Matthews–Toronto Maple Leafs
The native of San Ramon, California is making $15.2 million this season. The highest paid American in the NHL, Matthews signed a four year deal worth $53 million on August 23, 2023. Matthews’s agent is Judd Moldaver of Los Angeles, California, who represents the Wasserman Group.
5) Mitch Marner–Vegas Golden Knights
The native of Markham, Ontario was traded from the Maple Leafs to the Vegas Golden Knights in the offseason for Nicolas Roy. Marner is in the first year of an eight year contract where he is making $96 million. Marner will be making $15 million this season. Marner’s agent is York University graduate Darren Ferris of Quartexx Management. The fact that Marner signed with the Golden Knights in the offseason was not a big surprise. That is because there seemed to be tension between Marner and Matthews over the last couple of seasons in the Ontario capital.
