Why The Delta Center Is Banning Signs At Jazz Games — And What Fans Are Saying

The Utah Jazz are 5-12 through their first 17 games in the 2025-26 season. Over the last three years, the Jazz have seemed like a lost franchise.

They finished 17-65 in 2024-25. That was the worst record in the league. Jazz fans have questioned whether the team is serious about competing or focused on ticket sales. Recently, the Sports Business Journal reported that the Delta Center, home of the Jazz, has banned fans from bringing signs to games. Jazz fans are not happy and continue to have doubts about the team as a serious franchise in the NBA.

Why has the Delta Center banned fans from bringing signs into games?

Ahead of the 2025-26 season, the Delta Center made an upgrade. They added new seating and enhanced views for fans. However, there was also a new set of rules that fans must abide by. Per the Sports Business Journal, the Delta Center has banned signs at all Utah Jazz and Utah Mammoth hockey games. Additionally, concertgoers will be prohibited from bringing signs into the venue.

The Delta Center said this was done to maintain a clear sight for everyone at all times. The arena noted that the policy will not be reviewed again anytime soon. Not what Jazz fans wanted to hear. Hearing of this new ban, Jazz fans became outraged.

One went on social media and said, “It’s like they’re committed to shrinking their fan base.”

Another said, “They know fans are gonna be holding up sell the team signs so they had to implement this bs rule.”

Smith Entertainment Group owns the Delta Center. They believe this was a “positive change for a less vocal majority.” Utah Jazz fans are outraged by this new rule. However, they are not the only NBA team that bans signs in their arena. Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Knicks, implemented a similar rule. While signs are not completely banned at MSG, they are prohibited. Signs must be hand-held and cannot display anything offensive.
