Following the Cleveland Browns’ Week 12 win, will Shedeur Sanders remain the starting quarterback?

Sanders will be QB1 for at least one more week.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski named Sanders the Browns’ starting quarterback for the team’s Week 13 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

“Shedeur will start this week,” Stefanski told the media on Monday via the Browns’ social media. “Obviously, the No. 1 job of a quarterback is to win, so excited to get that first win under his belt. And then the next thing is improvement. That’s what young players do, certainly young quarterbacks do. You get one game better, and that’s just from working at it. So that will be our focus.”

Sanders started in place of Dillion Gabriel, who suffered a concussion in Week 11. Gabriel recently cleared concussion protocol. However, Stefanski has elected to stick with Sanders going forward.

Shedeur Sanders’ First Star

The entire football world was tuned in for Sanders’ first career start against the Raiders.

Sanders, whom Cleveland drafted in the fifth round, finished 11 of 20 for 209 yards with one touchdown and an interception in the Browns’ 24-10 victory over the Raiders.

After struggling in relief last week, Sanders appeared more confident and poised as a quarterback due to a week full of reps with the starters. Sanders’ best throw came in the first quarter on a 53-yard bomb to Isaiah Bond.

Sanders’ first touchdown pass came on a 66-yard screen pass to Dylan Sampson. It’s the longest completion by a rookie quarterback this season.

“The fact that I got an opportunity, and I was able to show the organization, show everybody who I really am, that was truly exciting,” Sanders said after the game via Browns.com.

Stefanski added, “I think you saw a lot of what Shedeur [Sanders] does well on the field today. I thought to make that play off schedule when we were out man the protection, get the ball down the field. So, there’s a lot that he’s doing well, and there’s a lot that he’s working on which is what I appreciate about young guys that want to get better.”

Sanders became the 42nd quarterback to start for the Browns since 1999. Sanders also became the first Browns quarterback to win his first NFL start since Eric Zeier in 1995, snapping a 17-game losing streak.

The Browns (3-8) host the San Francisco 49ers (7-4) on Nov. 30.
