Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders believes his son, Shedeur Sanders, will receive a chance to play for the Cleveland Browns in 2025.
Deion Sanders Believes Shedeur Will Play This Season
Sanders appeared on the latest episode of New Heights with Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce.
During the conversation, Sanders spoke about his son, Shedeur, who currently plays for the Cleveland Browns. Shedeur is the third-string quarterback behind starter Joe Flacco and backup Dillon Gabriel.
Sanders, a Hall of Fame player during his time, revealed the advice he would give his son as he waits for an opportunity to see the field.
“Be patient and be ready,” Sanders said. “You got to be ready when it’s time. But when it’s time, you’re going to know. And it’s coming up. I got a prediction. I ain’t telling nobody. I got a feeling when it’s going to go down. But it’s going to go down this year.
Flacco, who led the Browns to victory in Week 3, will remain the starter for the foreseeable future. If anything happens to Flacco, Gabriel would be the next man up.
Despite having two guys in front of Shedeur, Sanders believes his son will play this season.
“It’s gonna go down this year,” Sanders said about his son’s chances of playing. “He’s gonna get a shot.”

Earlier this month, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Baltimore Ravens were interested in drafting Shedeur in the fifth round of April’s draft.
Before the Ravens could make the pick, Shedeur informed the Ravens that he didn’t want to go to a team where he couldn’t play soon. In Baltimore, Shedeur would have been the backup quarterback for two-time MVP Lamar Jackson.
With Shedeur not on board, the Ravens instead drafted offensive lineman Carson Vinson in the fifth round. Three picks later, the Browns traded up to draft Shedeur.
During the New Heights interview, Sanders confirmed Shefter’s report and explained Shedeur’s reasoning for turning down the Ravens.
“How in the world can somebody fault him for thinking, ‘Why in the world would I go back up Lamar for 10 more years?’ Who comes in with that mindset?” Sanders said about Shedeur’s decision to pass on Baltimore. “Where do these guys come from that sit on these platforms and say, ‘You should’ve sat behind and learned the game and developed.’ When have the pros developed anybody? By the time you get to the NFL, they expect you to know what you need to do and do it, or somebody else is gonna get in there and do it.”
Sanders also revealed that the Philadelphia Eagles called Shedeur during the draft. Shedeur would have also been a backup in Philadelphia, as Jalen Hurts is the definitive starter.
The Browns (1-2) play the Detroit Lions (1-1) in Week 4.
