Minnesota Timberwolves star guard Anthony Edwards became the third-youngest player in NBA history to reach 10,000 career points during Thursday night’s 131-122 home win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Edwards reached the milestone when he connected on a 13-foot fadeaway jumper from the baseline midway through the fourth quarter. The three-time All-Star finished with 25 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists.
Only LeBron James (23 years, 59 days old) and Kevin Durant (24 years, 33 days) were younger than Edwards (24 years, 156 days) when they reached 10,000 career points.
In addition, Edwards is one of seven players in NBA history to record 10,000 points before turning 25 years old, also joining Kobe Bryant, Luka Doncic, Tracy McGrady, and Carmelo Anthony.

Edwards, who was selected No. 1 overall in the 2020 draft out of Georgia, made his debut at age 19. He reached the 10,000-point mark in 412 games, the 28th fastest in NBA history.
It was also the seventh fastest among active players behind Doncic (358), James (368), Joel Embiid (373), Durant (381), Trae Young (390), and Donovan Mitchell (410).
“To be honest, it’s cool, but I know I’ve got a lot more to go, so it’s really nothing, for real,” Edwards said. “I’m kind of sick that I got in front of Kobe. I wished I would’ve waited like 100 days or something, but yeah, it’s all good.”
Edwards Continues To Set Wolves Records
Only two other players have scored 10,000 points for the Timberwolves: Kevin Garnett (19,201) and Karl-Anthony Towns (13,121). Edwards is already Minnesota’s all-time leader in made 3-pointers (1,214).
What’s more, it was Edwards’ fifth straight game with at least 25 points and fewer than five turnovers. He finished 10-for-20 (50%) shooting from the field and 4-of-7 (57.1%) from 3-point range.
“The scoring comes natural to him in a lot of ways,” said coach Chris Finch, reflecting on the first 40-point game of Edwards’ career during his rookie season.
“At that point in time you knew there was something inside him where he could get to that.”
Through 31 games (all starts) this season, Edwards is averaging a career-high 29.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 34.8 minutes per contest while shooting career bests of 50.4% from the floor and 41.2% from deep.
