With WrestleMania week finally here, we’re taking a look at every U.S. state’s favorite WWE Superstar in an exclusive study.

With big matches such as Cody Rhodes vs John Cena headlining in Las Vegas, the findings are certainly interesting.

Data highlights:

  • John Cena is by far the most popular wrestler in the United States with 25/50 states
  • Cody Rhodes is favoured in Cena’s home state of Massachusetts
  • Logan Paul’s home state of Ohio looks to favour his Wrestlemania rival, AJ Styles
  • Wrestlemania takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada, who came out in favour of Roman Reigns

Every U.S. State’s Most Popular WWE Superstar

After being one of the faces of WWE over the last 20 years, John Cena was popular as expected all across the U.S. He was a clear winner in the findings with half of America favoring him to any other superstar.

Despite him recently ‘turning heel’ Cena is still loved by Millions worldwide, and we have the stats to prove it.

However, interestingly Cody Rhodes is the favorite superstar in Cena’s home state of Massachusetts – as well as his own state North Carolina.

  • John Cena (25 states)
  • Cody Rhodes (12 states)
  • Roman Reigns (4 states)
  • CM Punk (4 states)
  • The Undertaker (1 state)
  • Booker T (1 state)
  • Seth Rollins (1 state)
  • Triple H (1 state)
  • AJ Styles (1 state)

Another intriguing finding is that AJ Styles is the favorite WWE superstar in WrestleMania opponent Jake Paul’s home state of Ohio. Could the people of Ohio be turning their back on Paul?

Of course with WrestleMania taking place in Las Vegas, people will be eager to know who Nevada residents favor. We can reveal it is Roman Reigns, who takes part in the highly anticipated triple threat match against CM Punk and Seth Rollins. The ‘Original Tribal Chief’ will be sure to have the crowd on his side…

12 States Prefer Cody Rhodes To John Cena

Out of 50 states in the data, 25 are on Cena’s side in the Undisputed WWE Championship match against title holder Rhodes, who has 12 states supporting him.

States Supporting Cody Rhodes –

  • Arizona
  • Georgia
  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Mississippi
  • Missouri
  • New Jersey
  • North Carolina
  • North Dakota
  • Tennessee

Still nobody knows what the outcome will be when two of the WWE’s biggest names collide, could there be one more twist in the tale?

CM Punk & Roman Reigns Share 3rd Spot Ahead Of WrestleMania Triple Threat

The second biggest match at WrestleMania this year sees CM Punk, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins face off in what is certain to be a compelling battle.

With all three being involved in an intense storyline since Elimination Chamber in March, WM41 will see them finally step into the ring together.

Interestingly, Punk and Reigns share the amount of states favoring them with four each. Meanwhile Rollins only has one state supporting him, see the full list below.

  • Connecticut (Roman Reigns)
  • Florida (Roman Reigns)
  • Illinois (CM Punk)
  • Iowa (CM Punk)
  • Nevada (Roman Reigns)
  • New Mexico (Seth Rollins)
  • Pennsylvania (CM Punk)
  • Virginia (Roman Reigns)
  • Wyoming (CM Punk)

And with Punk and Rollins being such fierce rivals, it’s worth noting that Punk is favored in Rollins’ of Iowa.

Nevada favored Reigns as mentioned already, so we could see the Allegiant Stadium backing the ‘Original Tribal Chief’.

Methodology

We used GoogleTrends to track the IOT (interest over time) of the top WWE Superstars in history over the past 12 months. To qualify for our search criteria, the Superstar must have wrestled in WWE at some point in their career, but may no longer be active.

We used the average number of searches on Google for all stars by state over a 12 month period. We cross referenced all the averages on our database to draw our results.

Commentary

Liam Solomon, Sportscasting spokesperson had his say on the data: “With this year marking the first time that Netflix will stream WrestleMania worldwide, it means the show will be more accessible for wrestling fans. It also means it will be available to millions of other households around the world. This is likely to win WWE Superstars more fans, and potentially lose some as well.
