Yankees, Mets To Add $909 Million To New York City Economy During 2025 MLB Season

The two MLB teams that play in New York City have high hopes for the 2025 season. The Yankees are looking to defend their American League championship from a year ago while the Mets hope to make some noise in the NL East with Juan Soto now in the mix. But no matter how the teams perform on the field, they’re projected to be a success in terms of their impact on the local economy.
New York City To See $900 Million+ Economic Boost Thanks To MLB
According to a report released by the New York City Economic Development Corporation, the Yankees and Mets are projected to add over $900 million to the city’s economy in 2025. They are two of the most lucrative franchises in the sport and some of the most recognizable worldwide, though the Yankees lead in the way of revenue by a significant margin.
The report estimates that Yankees home games will have a total economic impact of $594 million, while the Mets trail behind at $315 million. The difference is said to be caused by both higher ticket prices and higher expected attendance for the team playing in the Bronx.

The analysis takes a handful of factors into account. A combination of ticket sales, concessions, transportation, merchandise, visitor spending, and overnight lodging are all taken into consideration when projecting the numbers.
“With baseball returning to the Bronx and Queens, New York City will receive a significant economic boost of over $900 million,” said NYCEDC President and CEO Andrew Kimball. “Baseball is a key driver of our local economy—creating jobs, supporting small businesses, and encouraging both New Yorkers and visitors to spend money in our city.”
The boost to the New York City economy comes on the heels of a successful month of October last year. Thanks to playoff runs by both the Yankees and Mets combined with the New York Liberty winning the WNBA championship, October saw a boost of $200 million in revenue, reaffirming the impact that sports have on local economies.
