After a career resurgence, Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz has no plans to retire and wants to re-sign with the team.

Zach Ertz Plans To Play In 2025

The Washington Commanders’ season ended in Sunday’s 55-23 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship.

Ertz, 34, saved his best for last, as the tight end had season highs of 11 catches and 104 yards.

After completing his 12th season, Ertz wants to return and play at least one more season.

“I don’t know what the future holds,” Ertz told reporters via NBC4 Sports. “I still want to play football next year. I just want to make that clear that I’m not retiring.”

The Commanders overachieved, mainly due to sensational play from rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Ertz became one of Daniels’ most reliable targets. The steady tight end finished the 2024 campaign with 66 catches for 654 yards and seven touchdowns.

Ertz’s 2025 postseason numbers: 25 catches for 155 yards and one touchdown.

Ertz signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Commanders this past offseason. One of the reasons why Ertz signed with Washington was to play for the offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, who coached Ertz in Arizona.

Ertz credits his tenure in Washington for revitalizing his career.

“I feel rejuvenated, I feel young,” Ertz said. “It’s the most amount of games I’ve played in a season at 34. I felt like I played good football this year. So, for me it’s just figuring out everything going forward. They know how I feel about this place.”

Does Zach Ertz Want To Return To Washington?

After his best season since 2019, Ertz wants to stay in Washington for his 13th season. Per Ertz, the decision comes down to the front office.

“Obviously it’s a two-way street,” Ertz said. “I can bang down the door saying I want to be here, but if they don’t want me here, then it’s a moot point.”

After finishing 4-13 in 2023, the Commanders finished the regular season with a 12-5 record.

The Commanders upset the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round before defeating the top-seeded Detroit Lions in the Divisional Round.
