New York Senator Joe Addabbo has been advocating for the advancement of his bill. Addabbo wants to modernize daily fantasy sports in the Empire State. However, the biggest qualm for his bill is raising the age for Daily Fantasy Sports. That’s where Addabbo has received the most backlash. As the chairman of the Racing, Gaming, and Wagering Committee of New York, Addabboo feels strongly on the matter.

In his proposed bill, Addabbo is also trying to expand the daily fantasy market in New York. Daily Fantasy Sports is highly profitable in the Empire State. Addabbo wants to see the state gaming commission issue more licenses in New York for Daily Fantasy Sports. He believes they could generate over $150 million in new revenue over several years.

Senator Addabbo has brought in two New York sports champions to help support his bill

The one major change in Joe Addabbo’s proposed bill is raising the age for Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) from 18 to 21. His bill closes a loophole that was letting users under 21 play DFS games in the past. If Addabbo’s bill becomes law, users under 21 will be restricted from betting on DFS. Senator Addabbo wants to protect the younger state residents and is committed to offering a safer gambling product in New York.

Joe Addabbo brought in two past New York sports champions to help support his bill. They were four-time World Series champion with the Yankees, Tino Martinez, and one-time Super Bowl champion with the Giants, David Tyree. Martinez had this to say in support of Joe Addabbo’s bill.

It’s a great way for our family to come together and it’s very enjoyable,” said Martinez. “It gets me involved in more of the players that I don’t know are out there. I get to learn them and talk to my kids about it, to my mom about it.”

David Tyree emphasized how sports betting is rapidly changing in the US.

People are looking at the game totally different. Every single person is looking at the game not trying to just watch it, but to interact with it. And I think that’s what the safeguards and the opportunities in the bill present,” – David Tyree

Joe Addabbo dismissed any concerns that expanding Daily Fantasy Sports would saturate the market in New York. He is not worried about that happening. Addabbo believes hundreds of millions in revenue could be made if DFS expands in New York. The Senator claims that DFS and mobile sports betting are on a parallel track and will work to enhance the entire market.
