Julio Jones was destined to be a future star athlete. In high school, he excelled in football, basketball, and track. When it came time to decide on his future, Jones opted to pursue a football career and stay close to home in doing it, playing for the Alabama Crimson Tide. 

Alabama coach Nick Saban showed what he thought of Jones right out of the gate, starting the true freshman wide receiver in the season opener, a first in program history. For the next three seasons, Jones validated his decision to play football with the Crimson Tide.

When Julio Jones opted to turn pro following his junior year, he finished his career with Bama as the SEC Freshman of the Year, a national champion in 2009, and on the All-SEC first team in 2010.

The Atlanta Falcons selected Julio Jones with the sixth overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year contract worth $16.2 million, all of it guaranteed. That first season Jones started 13 games and finished with 54 catches for 959 yards and eight touchdowns. He made the All-Rookie Team. It was a sign of things to come.

After earning his first Pro Bowl appearance following the 2012 season and sitting out most of the 2013 season due to a broken foot, Jones has put together one of the best runs by a wide receiver in NFL history. The 2015 season was his best, earning Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors after leading the league in receptions (136), yards (1,871), and receiving yards per game (116.9).

Jones put up another Pro Bowl/All-Pro season in 2016, when he once again led the league in receiving yards per game at 100.6 and was a big reason why the Atlanta Falcons made it to the Super Bowl that season. From 2017-2019, Julio Jones has consistently put up Pro Bowl-worthy numbers, his best year in 2018, when he led the NFL with 1,677 receiving yards.

After Julio Jones signed his initial contract in 2011 and proceeded to post multiple Pro Bowl seasons, he signed a five-year contract extension in 2015 worth $71.25 million, which included $47 million guaranteed. 

A year ago, Jones and the Falcons once again found themselves at the negotiating table. Knowing his value to the club, the Falcons opened up the checkbook and signed him to a record three-year $66-million extension, making him the highest-paid receiver in the NFL at the time. 

Julio Jones, who has a reported net worth of $50 million, has added to his wealth working with various local businesses in both Alabama and Georgia, as well as national brands such as Bose, Visa, Chevrolet, and Under Armour.
