Joe Gibbs is one of the most successful men in sports history. He’s the only person who has managed to achieve such a high level of success in two sports. Gibbs won three Super Bowl titles as head coach of the Washington Redskins, and he’s won five NASCAR Cup Series Championships as the owner of Joe Gibbs Racing. His success in both sports has allowed Gibbs to earn a substantial amount of money. What is Joe Gibbs’ net worth?

Joe Gibbs leads Redskins to three Super Bowl titles

The Washington Redskins hired Joe Gibbs for the 1981 season with the hopes the former San Diego Chargers assistant coach could turn around a football team that had languished in mediocrity for years. In his first season the Redskins started ominously, losing their first five games, but rallied back to finish the season with an 8-8 record. It was a springboard to the 1982 season.

The 1982 season was tarnished by a strike, but it didn’t stop Gibbs from motivating his team. The Redskins and quarterback Joe Theismann pulled off a season-opening overtime win in Philadelphia, suffered one loss to the Dallas Cowboys in the middle of the season, before dominating their opposition down the stretch. They finished the season with a 12-1 mark culminating in a 27-17 Super Bowl victory over the Miami Dolphins.

While the strike-shortened 1982 season has an asterisk by it, Gibbs cemented his legacy as one of the NFL’s greatest coaches guiding the Redskins to Super Bowl victories again in 1988 and 1992. He retired from football after the 1992 season only to return to coach Washington from 2004-2007. In his 16 years as an NFL head coach, Gibbs finished with a 154-94 record. Gibbs was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1996

In 1992, a year before Joe Gibbs first retired from the NFL, he created his first NASCAR team under the Joe Gibbs racing flag. Gibbs signed Dale Jarrett as his first driver, and in 1993, Jarrett earned Gibbs his first big victory as a car owner at the Daytona 500.

Since Gibbs arrived on the NASCAR scene, he has consistently managed to assemble quality teams much like his days as the Redskins coach. During his NASCAR career, Joe Gibbs Racing has won two Xfinity Series Championships, five NASCAR Cup Series Championships, and earned four victories in the Super Bowl of NASCAR, the Daytona 500 in 1993, 2016, 2019, and 2020.

The Joe Gibbs Racing team is known for its development program and grooming young talent and bringing it up through the ranks, including stars like Joey Logano and Aric Almirola.

Currently, Joe Gibbs Racing has four teams on the NASCAR Cup Series, including No. 11 Denny Hamlin, No. 18 Kyle Busch, No. 19 Martin Truex Jr., and No. 20 Erik Jones. For all of his successes in his almost 30 years of NASCAR, Gibbs was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2020.
