Ward spoke about his decision not to throw, electing to show his arm at his pro day.
“Me throwing here is not going to move me no type of way,” Ward said to reporters on Friday via Mary Kay Cabot. “I just decided to throw at my pro day to the best receiving corps in the country.”
Ward is not the only top quarterback prospect choosing to skip the throwing portion of the combine.
Shedeur Sanders will also not throw at the combine. Sanders will focus on interviews and instead throw at Colorado’s pro day.
Ward, who is projected to be the first quarterback off the board, believes throwing at the combine will not improve his draft status.
“I think my five years of film shows everything I can do,” Ward said. “Me throwing here at the combine is not going to move the needle in any way.”

Ward and Sanders are the only top quarterback prospects not throwing at the combine.
Frankly, this decision won’t affect the duo’s draft status. Both will be taken within the first 10 picks of the first round.
One of the quarterbacks choosing to throw is Jaxson Dart. The third quarterback in this year’s class is up for grabs, and many believe Dart can move into that position with a good combine.
Notable quarterbacks throwing during the combine include Texas’ Quinn Ewers, Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, Ohio State’s Will Howard, Notre Dame’s Riley Leonard, and Syracuse’s Kyle McCord.
