Shedeur Sanders Won’t Throw At NFL Combine This Week

Shedeur Sanders figures to be one of the top picks in the 2025 NFL Draft as one of the two elite quarterback prospects in this year’s class. And because of his status and body of work, the former Colorado signal caller doesn’t feel the need to showcase his throwing talents any further, and will sit out for the passing portion of the NFL Combine.

During his senior season with the Buffaloes, Sanders ranked as one of the top quarterbacks in the nation. He led all of FBS with his 74% competition percentage, had the second-most touchdowns, and finished fourth in passing yards. And while he wasn’t a Heisman finalist like fellow prospect Cam Ward, he is still projected to be a top-10 pick in April’s selection process.
It is unclear as to what extent Ward will be participating in the upcoming Combine. But it was reported on Sunday afternoon that Sanders would be skipping the throwing portion of the scouting event, and instead will focus his time and energy on his in-person meetings with teams this coming week.

One of the most important aspects of the NFL Combine is indeed the portion where teams get to know players on a personal, off-the-field level. Sanders apparently feels like he’s put enough material on tape for teams to know what is he about physically, and will instead sell his leadership and personality to quarterback-hungry teams.
As far as being the first overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, the race is a two-man one. Ward is the slight favorite to be number one, listed at -140, while Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter is just behind at +165. Sanders’ long-time teammate and favorite target Travis Hunter has the third-best odds of having his name called first at +550, while Sanders himself is in fourth place overall with a designation of +650.
