In a rare NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series spring detour to Bristol, Tennessee, Kyle Larson will again attempt to match Kyle Busch.
The 2021 Cup circuit champion is scheduled to participate in all three National Series events at Bristol Motor Speedway, beginning with Friday’s Weather Guard Truck Race.
Larson only has one previous Trucks start at the 0.533-mile oval. It came in 2021 when the track was resurfaced to a dirt.
Friday’s tripleheader opener will be Larson’s first outing since Sunday’s disappointing Cup outing, low-lighted by two collisions and a wait in the Darlington garage for more than 150 laps after his first crash. Larson likely is looking forward to returning to Bristol. He has two Cup wins at the “Last Great Colosseum,” including the playoff win last fall in which he led 462 of 500 laps.
Larson, a short-track ace, captured two of three races at Homestead-Miami, winning the Truck and Cup events. Larson (-130) enters the Weather Guard Truck Race as the overwhelming favorite, according to BetOnline Sportsbook. Truck Series points leader Corey Heim (+475) drew the second-best odds.
Larson visited Victory Lane in his past two circuit appearances, including the North Wilkesboro event in May 2023.
Kyle Busch is the lone stock-car driver to earn three wins during one weekend. The two-time Cup champion accomplished the feat twice at Bristol (2010 and ‘17).
Like his win at Homestead, Larson, who compiled four wins in 16 career Truck Series starts, will be hoping for more long runs this weekend.
“I felt like the Truck race was probably going to be the toughest to win,” Larson told reporters after the Baptist Health 200 triumph March 21. “ I don’t have much experience in them, and the runs are typically shorter.”
