Comedian Shane Gillis Selected To Host The 2025 ESPYS

The 2025 ESPYS will have one of the biggest names in comedy, Shane Gillis, as the host.

The 2025 ESPYS presented by Capital One will be hosted by Gillis, the Pennsylvania-born comedian, actor, and writer.

“I’m excited to be at The ESPYS this year,” said Gillis in a statement. “I like sports so this should be a good time.”

Gillis, 37, has been on a meteoric rise to the top of comedy. Ironically, Gillis’ jump to the mainstream began after being fired from SNL in 2019 after a clip surfaced of him using derogatory language on a podcast.

Gillis is the co-creator and star of Tires, a Netflix comedy series that recently aired its second season. The show has remained in Netflix’s Top 10 since its premiere on June 5.

Gillis hosts the popular podcast Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast with fellow comedian Matt McCusker. The comedian is also in the middle of an international stand-up tour that covers nearly 40 cities.

Gillis is a longtime sports fan, having briefly played football in college. Gillis is a massive fan of Notre Dame football, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Philadelphia Eagles.

“Shane is not only one of the top comedians today, but also a huge sports fan, which made him an easy choice to host The ESPYS,” said Craig Lazarus, ESPN Vice President and The ESPYS Executive Producer. “We are thrilled to work with him to create an entertaining show celebrating this year’s best moments in sports and are excited to see what he’ll do on stage.”

2025 ESPYS Information

The ESPYS are the sporting world’s version of the Oscars.

The ceremony is a celebration of the year in sports. The best athletes, teams, and moments will be honored with awards.

Some of the top awards include Best Athlete (Men’s and Women’s Sports), Best Collegiate Athletes, Best Team, Best Championship Performance, Best Play, and more.

The honorary awards — including the Jimmy V Award, the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, the Pat Tillman Award for Service, and the Icon Award — provide some of the best speeches of the night.

Jim Valvano’s speech accepting the Arthur Ashe Award in 1993 is still one of the show’s defining moments.

The 2025 ESPYS will air live from The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday, July 16, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

The ceremony will air on ABC and stream live on ESPN+. The show can be streamed on demand the next day on Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+.
