American Jessica Pegula, the top seed at this week’s Bad Homburg Open, took care of business on Saturcay against former World No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the final to win the WTA 500 title. It is Pegula’s third title of 2025 (Charleston and Austin) and her ninth career title. Prior to 2025, she had never won more than two titles per year. Pegula also adds a second grass court title (along with the 2024 Berlin Open). She is also the first American champion of the tournament which originated in 2021.

Jessica Pegula vs. Iga Swiatek
Very little separated the play of Pegula and Swiatek who had a good week reaching her first grass court final. Iga Swiatek is not known for her grass court play, but she has to be more confident going into Wimbledon after her week which included a straight set win over 2024 Wimbledon finalist Jasmine Paolini. She also edged herself back into the Top 5 after falling out of those ranking positions because she did not defend the points earned in 2024 from her French Open win. Swiatek has not won a WTA title since the 2024 French Open. The five-time Grand Slam champion has 22 career titles.
Jessica Pegula has never won a Grand Slam. A late bloomer of sorts, the 31 year old made her first Grand Slam final in 2024 at the US Open. Fans would love to see her make a deep run at Wimbledon and perhaps etch her name on the trophy and a historic year for USA women’s tennis where the first two Grand Slams of the season were won by her compatriots: Madison Keys at the Australian Open and Coco Gauff at the French Open.
Both players will be leaving Bad Homburg quickly to get to Wimbledon where their peers have been practicing for days. Pegula will face Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto on Tuesday, July 1. Also on Tuesday, Swiatek will face Polina Kudermetova.
