Jimmie Johnson Scouting NASCAR Xfinity Series’ Prospects; Justin Allgaier Earns Top Drivers’ Championship Odds

Legacy Motor Club co-owner Jimmie Johnson is on a scouting mission.

With plans to expand the Statesville, North Carolina-based organization from two NASCAR Cup Series teams to three by 2027. After initially targeting next season for the move, Johnson could wait another year. Regardless of the timing, Johnson eyes Xfinity Series standouts Jesse Love and rookie Connor Zilisch as top prospects to pilot the new team.

Love enters Saturday’s event at Chicago Street Race ranked No. 4 in the drivers’ standings, 83 points behind leader Justin Allgaier. In 17 starts this season, Love posted one win and 11 top-10 finishes.

Allgaier (+170) earned the top sports-betting odds to claim the circuit championship, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Zilisch, who won his first Xfinity start at Watkins Glen last September and drew the second-best title odds at +450, ranks fifth in points with two wins and eight top-10s.

Legacy’s current full-time drivers, Erik Jones and John Hunter Nemechek, remain winless in 18 outings. Johnson runs a part-time schedule.

“It’s our intentions and ambitions to put a third car on the grid in 2026,” Johnson said on the “Ask Jimmie” podcast. “I’d say worst case scenario, ’27, but we’re working hard to make ‘26 happen.

“Being at Toyota and seeing their efforts in their young driver program and the men and women coming up through the program, there’s some really awesome talent in the pipeline.

“When you look through the Xfinity Series, Conor Zilisch, Jesse Love… you also look through the garage and there’s some young talent that took early steps to get into vehicles.

“There’s just questions in my mind and especially wearing my team owner’s hat, we’re looking to add a third car and hoping to get some news soon on that, but where to look, it’s tough.”
