Shane van Gisbergen wants to “Be Like Mike.”
While NBA icon Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls’s championship dynasty with two “3-Peats” (1991-93 and 1996-98), the NASCAR National Series driver seeks his third Windy City title in three years. Maybe his fourth.
In 2023, van Gisbergen, a New Zealand native, made his NASCAR Cup Series debut and captured the inaugural Chicago Street Race in the rain.
In 2024, the three-time Supercars champion, competing as an Xfinity Series rookie, earned his third win of the season, passing Ty Gibbs with two laps remaining and pulling away, taking the checkered flag 1.287 seconds ahead of the runner-up. At the time, it was his third straight circuit road-course win.
The road-racing prowess van Gisbergen continues to display – he also won the Mexico City Cup event last month – makes him the overwhelming sports-betting favorite at Chicago this weekend.
Despite a No. 32 ranking in the Cup drivers’ standings this season, the playoff-bound rookie was favored to win Sunday’s Grant Park 165. FanDuel Sportsbook also tabbed van Gisbergen (-115) with the top odds for the Xfinity Series’ The Loop 110 on Saturday.
JR Motorsports teammate Connor Zilisch (+135) received the second-best odds, while Sam Mayer (+1500) was a distant third.
We’re adding a little friendly competition to Chi-Town 🙂↕️

Alpha Prime Racing on Tuesday announced it signed Scott to a two-race deal, beginning July 19 at Dover Motor Speedway. He will also compete at St. Louis on Sept. 6.
In all caps, Scott posted his excitement on X (Twitter): “(LET’S) GO XFINITY RACING! So happy to finally announce this. This is been something I have been working on and trying to achieve for a very long time. Can’t wait to make my debut at (Dover).”
Through nine ARCA events this season, Scott posted six top-five finishes and has yet to finish outside of the top seven. As a rookie last season, Scott placed second in the drivers’ standings, posting a 20-race average finish of 8.1.
