NASCAR Cup Series Toyota/Save Mart 350 Entry List: Dates, Event Times At Sonoma Raceway

Bubba Wallace fouled out.

The NASCAR Cup Series driver tangled with Alex Bowman for sixth place with eight laps remaining during Sunday’s Grant Park 165 at Chicago Street Race.

As pole-sitter Shane van Gisbergen put the final touches on his national series sweep, Wallace aggressively defended his position against the No. 48 Chevrolet. Bowman’s machine had fresher tires, but Wallace collided with him several times.

The battle continued through the next lap at the 12-turn, 2.14-mile downtown course. Along the second turn with six rotations remaining, Wallace pulled ahead, but a collision forced the No. 23 Toyota into a spin, pushing him out of the top 10. He finished P28 in a homecoming of sorts for 23XI Racing co-owner Michael Jordan, a Chicago Bulls icon.

The Athletic reported that NASCAR officials will investigate the incident.

Bowman and Wallace have an on-track history. The Hendrick Motorsports’ driver thought the feud was over. Apparently not.

“I thought we had squashed our beef, but clearly we have not,” Bowman told The Athletic.

Bowman found Wallace after the race and exchanged words with him before walking away.

Needing points to remain in the playoff chase, Wallace enters next Sunday’s event at Sonoma Raceway No. 13 in the drivers’ standings, 189 points behind leader William Bryon. Still seeking his first win, Bowman ranks No. 10.
