After NASCAR Cup Series Disappointment, Corey Heim Remains Craftsman Truck Series Drivers’ Championship Favorite

As the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series remains dark for two more weeks, Corey Heim focused on his sixth Cup Series opportunity.

The Truck circuit’s points leader departed Chicago Street Race without getting a chance to compete during Sunday’s Grant Park 165. A full-time employee of TRICON Garage, Heim helmed the No. 67 Toyota for 23XI Racing, but failed to qualify as Katherine Legge tagged the top prospect with a DNQ.

Heim described his misfortune on X (Twitter): “Made a mistake on my first lap and bent the toe link. Tried to get everything I could out of it after that but clearly wasn’t enough,” Heim posted. “That’s completely my fault and still trying to process all of it. Thank you (23XI Racing) for a car plenty capable enough to make the race.”

The organization’s other three full-time pilots endured mixed results. Tyler Reddick, who posted the fastest lap, placed P4, but Riley Herbst finished P21. Wallace, who recorded the fastest practice lap but crashed in qualifying and was roughed up during Sunday’s race, finished P28.

The Truck Series returns July 25 at short-track Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park and the circuit has three more regular-season races remaining before the playoffs begin Aug. 30 at Darlington Raceway.

Heim (-155) remains the sports-betting favorite to capture the series’ championship, according to BetOnline Sportsbook.
