After posting his NASCAR Cup Series-best fourth win Sunday at Dover Motor Speedway, driver Denny Hamlin announced on TNT Sports: “We got a lot left.”
The 44-year-old new father apparently wanted to make it clear that any retirement rumors are premature.
Despite racing on older tires during the double overtime session of the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400, Hamlin held off Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Chase Briscoe during two late restarts, earning his 58th trip to Victory Lane.
Hamlin once said his goal was getting to 60 wins.
Since winning his first race since the birth of his son, Jameson, in June, Hamlin alluded to expanding his goals. Like finally earning his first Cup title.
“Things were going pretty well there before the rain and then obviously had to endure a few restarts there,” Hamlin said. “It was tough, those guys gave me a run for it, no doubt about it.”
With Sunday’s win, Hamlin moved up to fourth place in the drivers’ standings, 39 points behind leader Chase Elliott.
