Stewart Friesen

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series veteran Stewart Friesen suffered multiple injuries in a spectacular crash on Monday night but was “alert and talking” just moments after the wreck occurred. As of Tuesday evening, Friesen was in serious but stable condition while being hospitalized in the Canadian province of Quebec, according to an update from his wife, Jessica.

Friesen was competing in a Super DIRTcar Series race at Autodrome Drummond — a 3/8-mile dirt track in Quebec — when his Big Block Modified went for a horrifying ride that left the vehicle all but completely destroyed.

Safety workers transported Friesen to a local hospital. There, medical personnel determined that Friesen broke both his pelvis and his right leg. He will be transferred to a New York hospital on Wednesday and, in the coming days, undergo multiple surgeries, according to Jessica Friesen’s Tuesday evening update.

Here are a couple of videos of the violent wreck, if you can actually bear to watch them.
