Wyndham Championship 2025: FedEx Cup Playoffs Bubble Watch as Big Names Fight for Top 70

The PGA Tour regular season ends with a bang at Sedgefield Country Club for the 2025 Wyndham Championship. With the FedEx Cup Playoffs scheduled for next week, it’s the final chance for players to secure their spot at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Only the top 70 players qualify, so a strong finish this weekend could punch a ticket to Memphis, where a $20 million purse awaits.

Several big names are hovering near the cutline, including Nicolai Højgaard, Keith Mitchell, and Chris Kirk. Currently, Matti Schmid holds the “bubble boy” position at No. 70 in the FedEx Cup standings, but his grip is tenuous and he’s only five points ahead of Højgaard. A missed cut or mediocre finish could send him packing, while a clutch performance from someone just outside the line could shake up the playoff picture entirely.

FedEx Cup Playoffs Bubble Watch: PGA Tour Players on the Top 70 Cutline

The Wyndham Championship will mark the final full-field event until the fall schedule. With the FedEx St. Jude Championship limited to just the top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings, a significant change from the previous 125-player cutoff. Now every point now carries extra weight.

For some, it’s about holding on. For others, it’s about making one last push. The race is razor-thin, with Matti Schmid clinging to the 70th spot by just five points. He’ll need to outplay Nicolai Højgaard this weekend to avoid getting bumped out.

The stakes are high, the margins are tight, and for many players, the Wyndham Championship is do-or-die.

Big-Name PGA Tour Players Missing the FedEx Cup Playoffs Cut

There are a few big names on the outside looking in. Billy Horschel, Tom Kim, Max Homa, and Adam Scott are all currently below the FedEx Cup Playoffs cut line. Scott, sitting at No. 85, finds himself in unfamiliar territory—he’s only missed the FedEx Cup Playoffs once in his storied career. To keep that streak alive, he’ll need nothing short of a strong finish at Sedgefield.

Tom Kim, now ranked 89th after a missed cut at the 3M Open, will need a top-five finish to have any shot at advancing. Max Homa, despite a few strong showings earlier in the season, likely needs a win to move into the top 70 and keep his season alive.

With big names, tight margins, and playoff hopes hanging in the balance, the Wyndham Championship is shaping up to be one of the most dramatic events of the year.
