On an episode of her podcast, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham defended teammate Caitlin Clark against the critics who don’t believe she’s the “face of the league.”

On Wednesday, Cunningham signed a podcast deal with Colin Cowherd’s media company, The Volume. Cunningham now co-hosts the Show Me Something with West Wilson of Bravo’s Summer House. Cunningham and Wilson attended high school together in Missouri.
Cunningham wasted no time making headlines on the show. In the first episode, Cunningham addressed Clark’s detractors, including fellow WNBA players.
“It literally pisses me off when people are like, ‘She’s not the face of the league.’ What?” Cunningham said on her podcast. “There’s really good, well-known people in our league. I’m not discrediting them. We have a lot of badasses in our league. Hell yeah to that. I’m all for that. But when people try to argue that she’s not the face of our league or our league would be where we’re at without her, you’re dumb as s—. You’re literally dumb as f—.”
Clark is the biggest needle-mover in the WNBA. Clark’s games are setting WNBA viewership and attendance records.
Yet the players voted Clark as the ninth-ranked guard in the league ahead of the All-Star Game.
As a member of the Phoenix Mercury last season, Cunningham said that her teammates zeroed in on Clark to “show” her what the league is about.
“I know the talks Phoenix had in their locker room of, like, ‘We’re going to show her what the W really is,'” Cunningham said. “I get it to a certain extent. Every rookie coming into the league, that’s how you’re going to treat them. But there’s just more for her. It’s her second year. Now being on her team and seeing it, I’m like, ‘What are people doing?’ It’s just too much.”
Sophie Cunningham Defended Caitlin Clark During A Game

When defending Clark, Cunningham’s actions speak louder than words.
During a June 17 game against the Connecticut Sun, Clark received an eye poke and a shove to the ground, resulting in technical fouls.
When Cunningham had a chance to retaliate, she did.
When Sun guard Jacy Sheldon went up for a layup, Cunningham wrapped both arms around her and took her to the floor. Cunningham then got into a shoving match with several Sun players.
Cunningham cemented her status that night as the Fever’s enforcer.
