Shedeur is not the only son of Deion Sanders trying to make an NFL roster.
Shedeur’s older brother, Shilo, is battling for a spot with the Bucs. Sanders signed with Tampa as an undrafted free agent shortly after April’s NFL Draft.
Only 53 players can make the active NFL roster. Will Sanders be one of the 53? Head coach Todd Bowles said if Sanders performs well during the preseason, the safety could make the team.
“He’s coming along. He’s getting the scheme down,” Bowles said via Greg Auman. “He’s made plays like everybody else back there. There are a few tests that come up during the preseason — Tuesday night was one, and the other three preseason games and practices will be others. He’s got a chance to make it.”
Sanders, who played in the secondary during his college years, will try to win one of the backup safety positions behind Antoine Winfield Jr. and Tykee Smith.
Sanders played for six years collegiately: South Carolina (2019-2020), Jackson State (2021-2022), and Colorado (2023-2024). Sanders played for his father, Deion, at Jackson and Colorado.
Sanders made 19 starts in two seasons at Colorado. The 25-year-old finished with 67 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, two passes defensed, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. Sanders returned one of the fumble recoveries for a touchdown.
The Buccaneers begin preseason play against the Tennessee Titans on Aug. 9.

Speaking of Shilo’s brother, Shedeur is one of the four Browns’ quarterbacks fighting for the starting position. Shedeur, Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, and Dillon Gabriel are competing for reps at Browns’ training camp.
Pickett is believed to be the frontrunner, followed by Flacco, Gabriel, and Shedeur.
Up until this week, Shedeur had not worked with the first team. However, the injury to Pickett allowed Shedeur to face the Browns’ starters for the first time all camp.
With multiple quarterbacks and a finite number of wide receivers, Sheduer has frequently gotten the short end of the stick. Shedeur found himself throwing to equipment managers during his reps.
To his credit, Shedeur remains unfazed.
“I feel like that it’s not in my control, so I’m not going to think about that or even have that in my thought process of why it is,” Sanders said about his lack of first-team reps. “There’s a lot of people who want to have the opportunity to be at this level, and I’m here, and I’m thankful to have the opportunity. So, whenever that is, that is.”
The Browns open the preseason against the Panthers on Aug. 8.
