Anthony Richardson goes to throw the ball.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson revealed the significant changes he made to his diet for the season. One of the items he cut out was a certain treat that allows consumers to “taste the rainbow.”

Anthony Richardson Talks About His New Diet

As the saying goes, “You can’t outrun a good diet.”

The 2025 season is a make-or-break year for Richardson. The former first-round pick from the 2023 draft has shown flashes of greatness, but it’s been mostly a series of disappointments.

Richardson took a different approach in preparing for the season. It started in the kitchen with the candy, which he removed from his diet.

“I had to cut the sweets out, man,” Richardson said via ESPN. “It’s the candy. I used to be big on Skittles and all that stuff, just eating candy all the time. So, I’ve been just trying to cut out the sugary stuff and hydrate more. I need to be more of a pro when it comes to my eating.”

This slight change impacted Richardson’s physique. The 6-foot-4 quarterback lost 10 pounds and now walks around at 240.

Richardson didn’t stop there. Besides diet, the quarterback worked on the physical and mental elements of the game, including footwork, mechanics, and preparation. This idea of doing more to help the team succeed is an approach Richardson has adopted this offseason.

“I just feel like the things I was doing last year and the year before, I feel like there was more [to do],” Richardson said. “All the greats, they always do more. They do more than what other people are expecting them to do. After last season, I felt like I needed to do more not only for the team, but for myself. If I want to be a great and I want to be in the Hall of Fame one day, I have to do more. I know I have to go do things that other people won’t do.”

Anthony Richardson In QB Competition With Daniel Jones

If Richardson wants to start for the Colts in Week 1, he will need to earn it.

Richardson is currently in a quarterback competition with Daniel Jones, who the Colts signed to a one-year, $14 million contract this offseason.

Jones has more experience than Richardson, having accumulated a 24-44-1 record as a starting quarterback.

The athletic righty had his best season with the New York Giants in 2022. Jones combined for nearly 4,000 yards of total offense and 22 touchdowns. Jones and the Giants knocked off the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card round before losing to the Philadelphia Eagles over Divisional Weekend.

On the other hand, Richardson has all the physical tools and athletic ability to succeed. However, Richardson needs to stay healthy, and when he’s on the field, he must make smart decisions. Richardson’s 47.7% completion percentage from a year ago will not keep him in the starting lineup this year.

The Colts open up the preseason against the Baltimore Ravens on Aug. 7.
