Despite what many NASCAR Cup Series fans believe, Shane van Gisbergen doesn’t win every road-course race. Sometimes, like last year’s playoff race at Watkins Glen International, van Gisbergen let one slip away.
It still bugs the three-time Supercars champion.
In the lead along the bus section on the final lap, van Gisbergen, who won at Mexico, Chicago and Sonoma this season, faltered late in 2024, allowing Chris Buescher to make a winning pass.
“When I make a personal mistake like that, it still makes me angry to think I threw that one away myself,” van Gisbergen told NBC Sports. “I really want to go there (Watkins Glen) and make no mistakes, have a fast car and try and execute all day, which we have been doing on the road courses.”
BetOnline Sportsbook believes he can.

Go Bowling at The Glen Storylines
- Look out for Connor Zilisch. At plus-400, the rising Xfinity Series rookie earned the second-best odds. He topped a host of established Cup veterans such as 2021 circuit champion Kyle Larson.
- With Brad Keselowski placing P3 and Ryan Preece P6, RFK Racing posted multiple cars in the top-five during back-to-back races for the first time since 2012.
- Can anyone catch up to Chase Briscoe once the playoffs start next month? The No. 19 Toyota driver has three runner-up finishes in his past four outings.
