NASCAR Cup Series driver Tyler Reddick described the outcome at Richmond Raceway as the “worst-case scenario.”
When Daniel Suarez bumped Ty Gibbs, forcing the No. 54 Toyota to strike Reddick’s machine and send it into the wall, falling from the front of the pack to the back. He placed P34, endangering his potential provisional playoff spot.
The No. 45 Toyota team enters Saturday night’s event at Daytona International Speedway 29 points ahead of No. 16-ranked Alex Bowman.
The 2024 regular-season titleholder could miss the postseason if a first-time winner visits Victory Lane and a pilot surpasses him on points.
Joey Logano (+1000), the defending Cup Series champion, drew Saturday’s top odds, according to BetOnline Sportsbook.

Coke Zero Sugar 400 Storylines
- Ryan Blaney’s P3 at Richmond paced three Team Penske machines in the top five, followed by Joey Logano, who placed P4 after starting last, and Austin Cindric earned a P5. It was the first time the Mooresville, North Carolina-based organization accomplished the feat since July 2021.
- RFK Racing limped to the finish at Richmond. Chris Buescher’s P30 coincided with Austin Dillon’s win, knocking the No. 16 Chevrolet team below the postseason cutoff line. Pole-sitter Ryan Preece (P35) suffered from brake issues and co-owner Brad Keselowski remains off pace. The former Cup and Xfinity Series champion must win to qualify for the playoffs.
- Ty Gibbs endured a collision, brake issues, and two speeding penalties along pit road before finishing 18th. Gibbs, who claimed the 2022 Xfinity Series drivers’ title, remains winless in 112 Cup starts.
