The WTA and US Open bid adieu to two outstanding champions on Day 2, Petra Kvitova and Caroline Garcia.
Petra Kvitova
35-year-old Czech Republic and former World No. 2 Petra Kvitova turned pro in 2006.
She retires with 634 career wins, 31 WTA titles, including two Wimbledon titles in 2011 and 2014.
Kvitova was a two-time US Open quarterfinalist, two-time French Open semifinalist, and an Australian Open finalist.
Petra Kvitova married her coach Jiri Vanek in 2023, and she gave birth to their son in 2024.
She will be remembered as a formidable left hander who overcame personal tragedy, with the home invasion and robbery that resulted in serious injuries to the tendons in her left hand in 2016.

Caroline Garcia
The former World No. 4 in singles and World No. 2 in doubles hailing from France, Caroline Garcia also played her final competitive match in New York today.
Garcia, 31, had 11 WTA singles titles and won her home slam twice as a doubles player in 2016 and 2022.
Among her biggest singles wins was the 2022 WTA Finals.
Garcia is a newlywed who has openly spoken about the mental struggles of tennis players.
Her Tennis Insider podcast is popular among top ranked players who are frequent guests.
