Top Storyline: Daniel Jones Will Start At QB For Colts
Daniel Jones has been named our starting QB.
— Indianapolis Colts (@Colts) August 19, 2025
When the Indianapolis offense takes the field against the Miami defense, Daniel Jones will be under center.
Jones has been named the Colts’ starter for the 2025 season after winning the quarterback competition against Anthony Richardson, the team’s first-round pick in 2023.
Jones is the more experienced choice. The former first-round pick has accumulated 14,582 passing yards with 70 touchdowns, 47 interceptions, and 15 rushing touchdowns in 70 games.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen is hoping to get the Jones that led the Giants to the postseason during the 2022 season.
Dolphins vs. Colts: Picks and Best Bets
Dolphins +1.5 (-110)
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is one bad season away from being fired.
After making the postseason in his first two years, McDaniel and the ‘Fins missed the playoffs in 2024 with an 8-9 record.
The team’s record will be an important factor in determining McDaniel’s fate. However, how McDaniel handles the team off the field might be more important.
Remember, Tyreek Hill told the media that he wanted out of Miami after the team’s final game last season. If McDaniel loses the locker room, his time in Miami will come to an end.
Speaking of Hill, the 31-year-old receiver is coming off his worst year since 2019. Despite his struggles, Hill still managed to catch 81 balls for 959 yards and six touchdowns. Is age catching up to Hill?
The Dolphins’ success relies on the health of Tua Tagovailoa. When Tagovailoa plays, the Dolphins are 40-24. Without him, the team is 7-13.
Despite the Dolphins’ questions at several key positions, the Colts’ quarterback issue is a bigger problem. Since that playoff win with the Giants, Jones is 3-13 as a starter.
Making matters worse, Indianapolis has won two Week 1 games since 2008.
The Colts’ roster is talented enough to win seven to nine games. It all comes down to quarterback play. Fading Jones in his first game with Indianapolis seems like the right move.
Tyreek Hill Anytime TD (+145)
Hill loves to come out swinging in Week 1.
In 2023, Hill exploded with 11 catches for 215 yards and two touchdowns. Last season, the Miami receiver recorded seven receptions for 130 yards and one touchdown.
Despite an improved Colts’ secondary, McDaniel will want to keep his star wide receiver happy from the opening kickoff. Hill finds his way into the end zone.
