Who said professional tennis is not dramatic with soap opera plotlines? Holger Rune and Anna Kalinskaya are proving any naysayers wrong with this constant back-and-forth in the headlines in the days after the 2025 US Open.
I know what you are thinking. If I want it to stop, why am I writing about it? Well, I thought it was worth sharing because it is not fake news which is what I originally thought.
What Is Going On Between Holger Rune And Anna Kalinskaya?
The short answer is nothing, but according to Anna Kalinskaya, that is only because she shut down Rune.
Anna Kalinskaya says Holger Rune wrote to her 10 times and then gave up 🤣🤣🤣
“He writes to everyone, it seems…He thinks too much of himself…but he’s not the only one like that.”😂💀 pic.twitter.com/dReAAu9MU7

Kalinskaya previously dated Nick Kyrgios and Jannik Sinner so she is no stranger to dating a tennis peer.
She decided in an interview to publicly call Rune out for repeatedly pursuing her for a date. Kalinskaya accused him of thinking highly of himself and writing her 10 times asking her out. Though she did not specifically name other players, she said Rune was not the only one who did this.
Why she chose to out Rune in this setting is a headscratcher?
Holger Rune Responded
Rune heard or saw the interview and came out in defensive mode.

He blamed it on the language and culture differences between Kalinskaya who is Russian and Rune the Dane. Rune implied that she misunderstood the messaging.
Fans Don’t Like This
The US Open tried to launch a reality dating show called “Game, Set, Matchmaker” during the tournament, and fans were not receptive to it. For the same reason, fans do not like this. We like our players to be professional and not call each other out publicly.
Let’s hope this (and the US Open reality dating show) are in our rearview mirror forever now that it has been aired and discussed.
