Despite having a deep and talented roster, Team USA had to wait seven years to make it back to the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
The team’s last win was in 2017, and the route to the 2025 finals was a bumpy one as Great Britain gave Team USA everything they had in the semifinals.
Emma Navarro and Jessica Pegula both came from behind after dropping their first sets to win the singles matches against Sonya Kartal and Katie Boulter, respectively.

Navarro outlasted Kartal in the opening match, and Pegula had to raise her game because Boulter’s game was blazing hot in the opening set of the match.
After the match, Pegula admitted that her game wasn’t there, and Boulter was outplaying her.
Boulter had a spring in her step that Pegula did not have early on.
Rookie USA Team Meets Experienced Defending Champion Italy Team
No one on the current USA BJK Cup team has ever played in a final.
The opposite is true for Team Italy, the defending champion.
Team Italy had the day to rest after defeating Team Ukraine with the Olympic champion doubles team of Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani.
Both teams are strong and have great camaraderie so it is difficult to predict how it will turn out.
Lineups are unknown, but it seems like Navarro will open and Pegula would face Paolini in the second match. If a doubles match is needed, Paolini and Errani will be called to duty against USA’s World No. 1 doubles player Taylor Townsend and either Pegula, Navarro, Hailey Baptiste, or McCartney Kessler.
The Billie Jean King Cup Finals conclude on Sunday, September 21 at 5 AM ET on the Tennis Channel.
