Friday Night College Football Same Game Parlay: Florida State vs. Virginia – It’s an interesting line in the Friday night ACC matchup between FSU and Virginia
Virginia (3-1) hosts Florida State (3-0) this Friday night in a key ACC matchup, and the numbers suggest offense will be the story. Despite Florida State coming in as the No. 8-ranked team in the nation, multiple models project a tight win for FSU, with the average final score hovering around 28-25, giving FSU only a 57% chance of winning.
Meanwhile, both teams are among the top offenses in the country. Virginia averages 564.5 yards/game, ranking 5th nationally, with 313 ypg passing and 251.5 ypg rushing. Florida State, meanwhile, leads the nation in yards/game (628.7), with the 2nd-ranked rushing offense, and an offense that ranks in the top 5 in several categories. This offense has been dynamic through four weeks.

Defensively, Virginia gives up about 213 passing yards/game and around 100 rushing yards/game, while FSU’s defense allows fewer yards but is being tested via opponent tempo and explosive plays. With the spread sitting around FSU −6.5 and the Over/Under around 57.5, the market is aligning with expectations for an uptempo, high-scoring affair. That makes this same-game parlay build with FSU −6.5 and Over 57.5 total points a solid play.
I will admit, I am a bit worried about this line. It’s one of those odd lines where if the line were Florida State -9.5, I’d probably love the ‘Noles even more. But -6.5 seems a bit too good to be true. Still, I think Mike Norvell has this team believing they can win the ACC after an extremely disappointing 2024 season, and I fully expect them to show up on the road in Virginia ready to play on Friday night.
Friday Night College Football Same Game Parlay: Florida State vs. Virginia
Leg 1: Florida State −6.5
-
FSU is a powerful offensive unit capable of dominating both sides of the ball. Their rushing offense is elite as displayed by a record-setting performance against Kent State, and they have multiple weapons through the air. Virginia’s offense is strong, but its defense has shown susceptibility to burst plays, especially on the ground.
-
Multiple models and projections expect a close game, but games with this matchup profile tend to favor the road power differential when one team has a deeper roster and stronger offensive line, as FSU does. As I said, the -6.5 is suspicious, but I still believe people are underestimating the dynamic nature of this Florida State team.
Highest-graded offenses through four weeks:
1) Washington, 99.2
2) Florida State, 96.0
3) Vanderbilt, 94.4
4) USC, 93.1
5) Arkansas, 91.9
6) Indiana, 91.3
7) Oregon, 90.8
8) Alabama, 90.7
9) TCU, 90.1
10) Missouri, 89.8

Leg 2: Over 57.5 Total Points
-
Given that both offenses rank near the top in yards per game (FSU #1, UVA #11) and are scoring at a high clip, there’s potential for back-and-forth scoring in primetime. Virginia has averaged 45.5 points per game; Florida State 58. We may see fireworks on Friday night.
-
While there are defensive strengths, both squads have allowed explosive plays and shown moments of defensive lapses, especially Virginia’s secondary and FSU’s occasional tendency to give up chunk runs or passes with some sloppy tackling. The Over here is supported by recent Over trends in FSU’s games, and I think their offense will set the tempo in this one.
| Leg | Pick | Odds / Line |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Florida State −6.5 | −110 |
| 2 | Over 57.5 Total Points | −110 |
| Estimated Same Game Parlay Odds | +225 | |
For the third time, I’m putting it on record that this line is a tad odd. I thought we’d see it closer to FSU -10. But, I still think they’re one of the most dynamic offenses in the country, and that unit will control the pace and tempo on Friday night.
FSU’s rushing attack and explosive plays, paired with Virginia’s own yardage totals and high-output offense, point toward multiple scoring drives. However, Virginia’s defense may struggle to contain FSU at home, which supports the −6.5 spread on the ‘Noles.
The Over 57.5 is correlated: if FSU scores as expected, Virginia will likely also put up points as they chase their way back into the game. If the game is close, both teams will need to maintain their pace, thereby increasing scoring chances. While turnovers or weather could alter the scenario, the value on this parlay is in the offensive firepower.
Take Florida State −6.5 + Over 57.5 as your correlated parlay on Friday night.
