Federer chats with Djokovic as Borg looks on

Tennis legend Bjorn Borg believes Novak Djokovic is the greatest of all time in the sport.

An 11-time Grand Slam champion, Borg himself is considered one of the all-time greats. He won six French Open titles and five Wimbledon titles before retiring from tennis at just 26.

It’s also worth remembering that Borg played at at time when the Australian Open didn’t have the same significance it does now and so only participated in the event once. He was unable to capture a US Open title despite reaching four finals.

“Djokovic, for me, is the greatest to ever play the game,” Borg. “Second place comes [Roger] Federer and [Rafael] Nadal, they’re tied for second place. He’s [Djokovic] 38 years old, it’s gonna be tough with Sinner, Alcaraz, and some other players too. Still, he can do it [win a Grand Slam].

“I hope he has the motivation to play at least another year.”

Djokovic has an all-time record 24 Grand Slam titles in the Open Era, ahead of Nadal’s 22 and Federer’s 20. The Serbian also holds the record for another key marker in all-time ranks, spending 428 weeks at World No. 1. Federer is second with 310 while Pete Sampras is third here with 286 weeks as the top ranked man. Nadal finished with 209 weeks at the top.

The Serbian has already indicated he is committed to playing a full Grand Slam schedule next year, health permitting. He reached the semifinals of all four Majors this year, falling short against Sinner or Alcaraz on three occasions.

Borg Becoming More Public With Book Promotion

Soon turning 70, Borg has a tell-all book named ‘Heartbeats‘ that has released in the UK and USA. He has also been living with a prostate cancer diagnosis.

Borg shares the difficulties he had after turning to drugs and alcohol in the wake of his shock retirement due to burnout. He even suffered through two near-death experiences.

The Swede also shared his thoughts on the great rivalry that has emerged between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

“The matches they play is unbelievable, the tennis they play is unbelievable,” Borg said. “It’s so great for tennis as a sport.
