You couldn’t write a crazier script than what happened in the Titans’ improbable victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
The Titans were dead to rights in the fourth quarter. Down 21 to 6, Cardinals running back Emari Demercado is one yard away from scoring a touchdown and slamming the door shut on a comeback.
Instead, Demercado lets go of the ball and fumbles it out of the end zone, resulting in a touchback for the Titans. Tennessee then scored 16 unanswered points, capped off by Joey Slye’s game-winning field goal as time expired to give the Titans a 22-21 victory.
The Titans also benefited from a fumble recovery for a touchdown after a Cam Ward interception. Again, this was an unfathomable win that required unprecedented luck.
Ward looked like a franchise quarterback, especially in that 11-play, 71-yard game-winning drive.
After beating the Patriots, the Raiders have looked completely lost as a team, losing four consecutive games.
Statistically, Geno Smith has been one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the league. Smith leads the league in interceptions (9) and ranks 28th in QBR (38.6) among starters.
The Colts dropped a 40-piece on the Raiders in a 34-point victory in Week 5. The Raiders’ defense can’t get off the field — fifth-worst 3rd down defense (45.9%) in the NFL.
The Titans are coming off the highest of highs, and the Raiders are at the lowest of lows. This is the time to trust Pete Carroll to right the ship and outcoach Brian Callahan to a victory.
The Raiders should be able to establish the run — Titans allow the third most rushing yards per game (146.8) — and win by a touchdown.
Pick: Raiders -4.5 (-110)
Titans vs. Raiders Prop
Speaking of running the ball, I see Carroll implying an old-school approach to Week 6’s game — run the ball, control the clock, and play good defense.
The Raiders should have success running the ball against a terrible Titans’ run defense.
Ashton Jeanty is two games removed from a 138-yard rushing performance. It’s time for another breakout game for the rookie.
Pick: Ashton Jeanty Over 70.5 Rushing Yards (-120)
