The Miami Dolphins dropped to 1-5 in Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, and frustrations are mounting. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa affirmed that notion with his postgame comments, calling out his teammates and questioning the leadership within the organization.
Frustrations Grow For Miami Dolphins After 1-5 Start
Things haven’t gone well for Miami all season. After an embarrassing performance in Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts, the Dolphins have won just one game, and their record stands at 1-5 after the first six weeks. There have been issues on both sides of the ball, with the offense struggling overall and the defense being one of the worst in the league thus far.
The Dolphins have to fire their coaches after these statements, Tua also just incriminated himself. He doesn’t have the respect of all his teammates.

But the problems run deeper than just the underwhelming on-field product. After a three interception day on Sunday, Tagovailoa took the podium for his postgame press conference, and appeared to place blame on both his teammates and the coaching staff:
“I think it starts with the leadership, and trying to articulate that for the guys…we have guys showing up to player-only meetings late, guys not showing up to players-only meetings… It’s a lot of things of that nature that we gotta get cleaned up.”
There was plenty of talk in the offseason about the questionable culture in Miami, regarding both professionalism and toughness. There were hopes that certain roster moves had helped the issue, but it seems as though the problems remain even a third of the way into the season.
Mike McDaniel Responds To Tagovailoa’s Comments
Head coach Mike McDaniel, who entered the season on the hot seat and remains there today, was notified of Tagovailoa’s comments and shared his thoughts:
“Player-led meetings are extra things outside of what I demand…It sounds like there was something on his mind with regard to the specific meetings with a couple individuals that he was trying to get corrected by being direct with communication. I think that’s the only way to lead… Clearly he’s sending a message, but from my standpoint, everything that I’ve asked of the guys, they have delivered on.”
It is becoming increasingly likely that this era of Miami Dolphins football is coming to an end. There has to be a breaking point for team owner Stephen Ross to make a move regarding both the coaching staff and front office, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Mike McDaniel fired in the coming weeks.
How the Miami Dolphins find a way to lose is an art form.

With the season essentially past the point of salvation, the Dolphins will take their struggles on the road for the next two games. They will travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns in Week 7, followed by a game in Atlanta against the Falcons.
