Many predicted that Curt Cignetti and the Indiana Hoosiers would regress in the 2025 season, following a sensational 2024 campaign that ended in the first round of the College Football Playoff.
After winning the biggest game in school history this past weekend, the Hoosiers are not a fluke whatsoever.
No. 7 Indiana went into Autzen Stadium and defeated No. 3 Oregon 30-20. Quarterback Fernando Mendoza finished 20 of 31 for 215 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
Roman Hemby rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns, while Elijah Sarratt recorded eight catches for 121 yards and one touchdown.
With the victory, the Hoosiers are No. 3 in the latest AP poll, their highest ranking in school history.
In Week 9, No. 3 Indiana hosts Michigan State, and No. 8 Oregon travels to Rutgers.

One week can significantly alter the course of a season.
After falling out of the top 25, the Texas Longhorns defeated No. 6 Oklahoma 23-6 in the Red River Rivalry.
Arch Manning threw for 166 yards and one touchdown while adding 34 rushing yards.
Texas’ defense did not surrender a touchdown against John Mateer and the Oklahoma offense. The Longhorns intercepted Mateer three times on the day.
With two losses, Texas will likely need to win out to have a shot at the College Football Playoff.
In Week 8, No. 21 Texas travels to Kentucky, while No. 14 Oklahoma hits the road to play South Carolina.
Penn State Fires James Franklin

Although Penn State football fell out of the top 25, it is worth noting that the university fired James Franklin on Sunday. The move came less than 24 hours after the Nittany Lions lost to Northwestern 22-21 despite being a massive double-digit favorite.
Just over two weeks ago, Penn State was on the verge of beating Oregon at home. Since that game, Penn State has suffered three consecutive losses, with two coming against unranked opponents.
Franklin’s buyout is $49 million, the second-biggest in college football history behind the $76 million Texas A&M paid to Jimbo Fisher.
Now, Penn State begins its coaching search to replace Franklin, who brought the program back to national relevance following the Jerry Sandusky scandal.
In Week 8, Penn State plays Iowa on the road.
