Formula 1 has a new home in the U.S.
After months of speculation, Apple officially announced its partnership with F1 on Friday.
Apple did not announce the financial details of the five-year contract. However, Puck’s Dylan Byers previously reported that Apple offered Formula 1 $150 million per year for the U.S. broadcast rights.
ESPN, the previous partner, had been paying around $85 million per year. The Worldwide Leader in Sports decided not to match Apple’s offer and will abandon F1 rights once the deal expires at the end of this year.
Starting in 2026, Apple TV, which dropped the “+” in its name, will broadcast exclusive coverage of Formula 1. Every Apple TV subscriber will have access to all things F1 for free, including practice, qualifying, Sprint sessions, and Grands Prix.
Select races and all practice sessions will be available for free through the Apple TV app over the course of the season.
Apple will increase its coverage of F1 across Apple News, Apple Maps, Apple Music, and Apple Fitness+. Apple Sports will feature live updates for every race, with real-time leaderboards and a designated widget for the iPhone Home Screen.
“We’re thrilled to expand our relationship with Formula 1 and offer Apple TV subscribers in the U.S. front-row access to one of the most exciting and fastest-growing sports on the planet,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services. “2026 marks a transformative new era for Formula 1, from new teams to new regulations and cars with the best drivers in the world, and we look forward to delivering premium and innovative fan-first coverage to our customers in a way that only Apple can.”
“This is an incredibly exciting partnership for Apple and the whole of Formula 1 that will ensure we can continue to maximize our growth potential in the U.S. with the right content and innovative distribution channels,” said Stefano Domenicali, Formula 1’s president and CEO.

The new media deal is not Apple’s first foray into Formula 1.
In June, Apple Original Films released F1, a sports drama starring Brad Pitt as a washed-up driver who gets a shot at redemption when a former teammate offers him a spot on his failing F1 team.
Directed by Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski, F1 became one of the biggest success stories of the summer movie season.
F1 is the highest-grossing sports movie of all time with $629 million worldwide. It’s also Apple Studios’ biggest theatrical hit.
Due to the overwhelming success, an F1 sequel is being discussed, though nothing has been greenlit.
