The Jacksonville Jaguars may look to bolster their roster ahead of the upcoming trade deadline, as they sit at 4-3 through the first seven weeks. But there is a chance that they make a subtraction, as well, as the team is reportedly fielding calls about wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.
Has Brian Thomas Jr. Fallen Out Of Favor In Jacksonville?
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Jaguars are in fact listening to offers regarding the 23-year-old. She says that a move feels “highly unlikely”, but the team may be able to be swayed if they were to receive the right offer.
The news that Jacksonville is listening to inquiries about Thomas Jr. should keep the phones in the front office buzzing. After being drafted 23rd overall in 2024, Thomas Jr had a breakout rookie season and seemed destined to be a big piece of the Jaguars’ future plans. He racked up nearly 1,300 receiving yards while playing in all 17 games, and his 10 touchdowns tied him with Justin Jefferson and Tee Higgins for 6th-most in the NFL. He qualified for the Pro Bowl and finished 4th in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting.
The Jaguars are listening on calls for WR Brian Thomas Jr., even if a move feels highly unlikely. They’re also shopping for defense.

The story hasn’t exactly been the same in 2025. Despite his usage being upped from 80% of snaps to 83% this season, Thomas Jr is averaging 23.3 fewer yards per game through the first seven contests, and has scored just one touchdown thus far.
Even more concerning are his dropped passes. He finished last season with a total of 7 drops, and already has 9 this season and we’ve yet to hit the halfway point. In 2024, Thomas Jr dropped 5.3% of his targets. This year, that number has ballooned to 16.4%.
Which Teams Might Be Interested In Bringing In A WR?
Maybe management doubts his ability to rebound, or the new leadership just doesn’t see Brian Thomas Jr. as part of their plans. Which teams around the league could be making offers?
The Pittsburgh Steelers would be one of the first ones in line. Currently atop the AFC North, Mike Tomlin and company are reportedly looking for wide receiver help to bolster the weapons around Aaron Rodgers, and they’ve been linked to many of the pass catchers that have been rumored to be available.

They could certainly use the help. DK Metcalf has been solid for Pittsburgh so far this season, but no other WR on the roster has more than 139 receiving yards thus far. In fact, only two Steelers wideouts have more than 39 total yards receiving.
Another interested franchise could be the Buffalo Bills. After two mid-October losses, the team is reportedly looking for more firepower in their offensive attack as they attempt a Super Bowl push. They, too, have been linked to many of the WRs around the league in trade rumors, though Brian Thomas Jr. hasn’t been mentioned specifically. But he would represent an immediate upgrade, and is young enough to hope that he’d be tied to Josh Allen for the foreseeable future.
The NFL trade deadline is just over a week away, set for November 4th.
